Room 512, Thursday evening

Brooke was currently torturing herself. Namely, she was surfing the websites of the stores she used to shop and designers she liked and it was resulting in a sort of occasional whimper as she once again remembered she couldn't have any of it. She was beginning to wonder if she could sell blood at the clinic. Yeah, it had been gross and she'd felt all light-headed afterwards last time she did it, but she'd spent way less money on drinks, and clothing was an investment.

This is what she was doing at least until Rock of Love finished downloading.

There was Michael's side, which Michael might object to, and the bed, but she waved around for him to make himself comfortable. "I have standards. 'Cute' counts as a standard."

Wanting to be considerate of the roommate he hadn't met, Peter went to sit on Brooke's bed with a respectable distance between them. "True. Now all we need is to add a few items on the list that don't involve looks."

Noticing her computer, he said, "Anything good?"

"Yes. Too much," she said, frowning at her computer before shutting the laptop. "It's mocking me. Ooh, that could be another item for the list: money."

No, she wasn't serious. Still, it'd be a nice perk.

If Peter had any reaction to that he didn't show it. "Can't buy you happiness. Or so they say."

"Trust me, I know," she sighed. "But still, it'd be nice to rent it for a little while. Just long enough for these shoes."

"Which ones?" Peter asked, curious.

She opened the laptop back up and brought it over to the bed to show him. "The ones that would go really well with that dress I was also coveting."

"Pretty," Peter said. "Where would you wear it?"

"Out," she said. "Date, club, party, the usual social events. It's kind of a shame Caritas doesn't do the dress up thing. I'd show up those zombies like woah."

"See? There's that self-esteem again," Peter said with a teasing grin. "You already show up the zombies, just as you are."

"I'm so glad at the end of the night I can tell myself I'm prettier than a brain-eater," she teased.

"I'm here to help," Peter replied.

"So are you just here to check on my standards?" she wondered, putting the laptop on the floor, out of the way.

"That, and say hi," Peter said. "Nice radio broadcast last night, by the way."

"Thank you," she said, smiling. "I do my best. Even if my best is saying a lot of really whacked-out stuff."

"I see I've gathered another nickname," Peter said. "Thanks."

"The opportunity was there, there are multiple Peters..." She shrugged. "I had to do something to keep you guys straight."

"Sometimes I've been called Steve," Peter said. "But I like hard-to-get Peter. It's more of a compliment."

"I may just have to make sure this one sticks then," she decided.

"I'll have to make sure to do something newsworthy every Wednesday," Peter said. "So you'll have a reason to mention it."

"Deal," she said. "Since you know, talking about you's such a chore and all."

"I've been told I'm real boring since I stopped being a slut."

"No, the correct phrasing is, 'started playing hard to get'," she reminded him. "And I really doubt you're boring."

"Very nice," Peter said. "At this rate the student's going to pass the teacher."

"Is there a gold star in my future?" she asked.
