Room 512, Thursday evening

Brooke was currently torturing herself. Namely, she was surfing the websites of the stores she used to shop and designers she liked and it was resulting in a sort of occasional whimper as she once again remembered she couldn't have any of it. She was beginning to wonder if she could sell blood at the clinic. Yeah, it had been gross and she'd felt all light-headed afterwards last time she did it, but she'd spent way less money on drinks, and clothing was an investment.

This is what she was doing at least until Rock of Love finished downloading.

Dick figured that he should check up on his egg-baby at least once before they turn the assignment. Which was actually pretty good parenting for him considering he was from Neptune. So he found Brooke's room number and knocked on the door.

Brooke turned from her spot at the desk to look into the open doorway. "With one whole day to spare," she greeted him.

"What can I say, I'm a father that cares deeply for his children," Dick said. "How's Suri?"

"Well-dressed and happy," Brooke answered, picking Suri up from the little pillow she'd been resting on on the desk in order to show him. Today's sari was a different color, because due to not having arms and legs, Brooke had had to trade different styles for different fabrics. "Be glad I couldn't figure out shoes."

"That better be designer," Dick joked. "No kid of mine wears anything from Wal-Mart."

"It's a Brooke Davis original, it totally counts," she assured him. She wasn't telling him where she got the fabric, though. "Only the best for our little egg person."

And she patted Suri on the... head. If it couldbe called that.

"Okay, it's scary when you pet it," Dick said.

"She," Brooke corrected. "And seriously, you spend a week with her and not get all bizarrely attached. I wonder if I can sue the school if I need therapy."

"Maybe Barney will let you keep her," he said. "Since you're so attached and all."

Peter passed by after Dick had gone and noticed Brooke's door was open. "You know this isn't hard to get. Any idiot could walk in."

She smiled as she turned back around in her chair to face him. "Well if I board up the door it makes it really hard to get back out," she told him.

"There's a fascinating invention you might want to learn about," Peter said. "They call it a doorknob. Helps bridge the gap between wide open and boarding things up."

Brooke frowned in feigned ignorance. "Door...knob? Eh. I don't have time for that newfangled technology anyway."

"Just wait until I tell you about zippers and buttons," Peter replied. "It'll blow your mind."

Brooke smirked. "And here I thought I was supposed to be playing hard to get."

"So you do remember," Peter said. He gave her a grin as he came on in. He motioned to ask if she minded if he grabbed a seat. "There's hope yet. Next we'll improve your standards up from 'there and said yes.'"

There was Michael's side, which Michael might object to, and the bed, but she waved around for him to make himself comfortable. "I have standards. 'Cute' counts as a standard."

It had been a good day, and that gave Romeo considerable fuel as he tapped on the door frame when he noticed Brooke sitting at her computer.

If nothing else, it seemed ungentlemanly to never speak to her again.

Brooke turned around, and she was glad to see him. She just may have been a little avoidy due to certain... you know, things. "Hey there, stranger," she greeted him with a smile.

"I might say the same to you, Brooke," Romeo said lightly, stepping through the door. She seemed pleased to see him, and that made this much easier. "How does this fine night find you?"

"Egg-sitting and bored," she said, waving him in. "How about you?"

"I just recovered Felix from his nurse," Romeo said, pulling an egg in a tiny paper suit out of his jacket pocket for Brooke to see. "But I am not so bored, at least not at the moment. I went to the gun club this afternoon."

...Of course the egg would be named Felix. It wasn't like it was even a common name, but of course. "You're in the gun club?" she asked, eyebrows raised. At least that was a good distraction from the ex's name.

"I am now," Romeo allowed, trying to think of how to explain this. "I did not mean to join, but at home ... it is not exactly safe, where I am from, or at least not for all. I go armed there, and I ought keep in practice while at school."

Brooke's eyes widened slightly. "Not big on metal detectors out there in California?"
