Room 512, after classes

Brooke was not very good in a crisis. Radio might have made that evident. After French class she headed straight back to her room, trying to distract herself over a sewing machine to put together a few of her designs. This actually did work, at least until she heard a noise and about jumped out of her skin. And there was a lot of frustrated mess-ups and muttered curses that followed, so all in all Brooke was having a fun time.

And not going outside for any town meetings. If there was a marning to be careful in going into town, she wasn't going into town.

Peter had heard radio last night and decided to see how Brooke was doing. He knocked on her door.

And that was Brooke jumping and scrambling to her knees to look for the shoe under her bed again. "Who is it?" she called.

"Peter," Peter replied. "Are you okay?"

"Uh huh!" Even if she couldn't find her shoe. "No statues out there with you are, there?"

Peter looked around to double check. "Nope. Just me."

Okay, if something did come crawling down the hall, Powers Boy could take care of it, she decided, going to the door to open it for him. And sticking her head out because she had to look. "I like you so much better than statues that want to send me back to 1830."

"Good to know I came out ahead in that competition," Peter replied.

"It's not a hard race, trust me," she said, opening the door a little more in case he wanted to come in.

Peter did, looking around to make sure everything was okay. "You know I would've been happy to walk you home last night."

Nathan was actually thrilled Peter hadn't, but Peter thought Nathan's opinion was stupid. At least in this matter.

She closed the door, locking it in case angels could turn doorknobs. "Yeah, I kind of wasn't thinking straight? Like, go figure I didn't try to get the squirrels to bring me equipment here or anything, but it was in my head to do radio," Brooke sighed. "I have problems."

"At least you don't have to go out tonight, right?" Peter said. "How about tomorrow? Any classes?"

"Just one. It's my easy A class," she said. "Though if the professors are missing, I could probably get away with ditching..."

Peter snickered. "Well, lemme know if you want company. I'm free all day."

Brooke smiled. "Are you offering to be my escort? Will you carry my non-existent books and everything?"

"I dunno," Peter said, pretending to think about it. "Non-existent books can be pretty heavy."

"I'm sure you could handle it," she said, angels momentarily forgotten.

"I suppose I could try," Peter said. "For the right motivation."

"I can be pretty motivating," Brooke assured him.

"I dunno," Peter said. "You always struck me as pretty shy."

"I know, it's so hard to get me out of my shell," she said, shaking her head. "I just don't know what to do about it."

"Could try talking about it," Peter suggested. "Sharing our feelings."

"The feelings-sharing thing might be a little weird today," Brooke said, "but I'm up for other suggestions."

"Never was too good at that," she said, not even missing a beat.

"Huh," Peter said. "And ANTM was yesterday, so that's out..."
